Members johnggrg Posted May 22, 2014 Members Report Posted May 22, 2014 I curently use an awl to punch my stitching holes. I am wondering about the diamond stitching hole punches. Are the shape of the diamond hole better? If so why? Does it make it easier? Any and information would be appreciated. John Quote
Members Hi Im Joe Posted May 22, 2014 Members Report Posted May 22, 2014 I find I make more consistent holes with the chisels then with the awl. Especially the backside. Quote http://www.sevenhillsleather.com/

Members Hi Im Joe Posted May 22, 2014 Members Report Posted May 22, 2014 Well i mean it makes it more consistent. Which results in your stitching looking better. I find it easier to make neat holes with the chisel then with the awl. Quote http://www.sevenhillsleather.com/
Members DavidL Posted May 22, 2014 Members Report Posted May 22, 2014 I have one in 9 SPI i don't use it at all since I got european pricking irons, they do okay. Quote
Members johnggrg Posted May 23, 2014 Author Members Report Posted May 23, 2014 for my normal stitches I use the large overstitch wheel to lay out my stitch marks. So would that be the 4mm?? I want to get the ones that are the same distance as what I am useing now. Quote
Members DavidL Posted May 23, 2014 Members Report Posted May 23, 2014 stitch with the overstitch, take a ruler and measure out how many stitches can fit within an inch. That is the Stitches per inch of your overstitch. Stitches per inch on pricking iron and overstitch are the same scale. Quote
Members johnggrg Posted May 24, 2014 Author Members Report Posted May 24, 2014 the ones I looked at said 2mm 3mm 4mm etc.Even Tandy's say's Pro Line Diamond Stitching Chisel 2 Prong (5/64" (2mm) Spacing) Quote
