I curently use an awl to punch my stitching holes. I am wondering about the diamond stitching hole punches. Are the shape of the diamond hole better? If so why? Does it make it easier? Any and information would be appreciated. John

for my normal stitches I use the large overstitch wheel to lay out my stitch marks. So would that be the 4mm?? I want to get the ones that are the same distance as what I am useing now.

stitch with the overstitch, take a ruler and measure out how many stitches can fit within an inch. That is the Stitches per inch of your overstitch.

Stitches per inch on pricking iron and overstitch are the same scale.

They have their place for some projects.

Looking at a lefty's perspective...

you have to use the chisel on the right side of the stitch to get a good stagger on the stitches

I will use the chisels on thin projects

best you can do with thick projects is to use as a pricking chisel then finish the hole with a stitching awl.

most of my projects I will gouge a stitching channel then use the overstitch wheel in the channel then stab the holes in with a good sharp awl.

The 2.5mm chisel is 5SPI, according to my local shop. Checked em against the 5 overstitch wheel and it's as close as you'll get when they are on different measuring systems :)

Kind regards, Raven
