Members quirtevans Posted June 9, 2014 Members Report Posted June 9, 2014 I have been making some simple purses, bags for the local tourist trade. One small purse aimed at the younger crowd is basically a reduced size possibles bag made of various deer/elk/etc hide... I decorate them up a bit and they look good for a semi impulse buy item. However....... The flap is usually left rather plain (no two are exactly alike), and I'm thinking I should finish off the flap edge a bit with something, that won't drive the price point up.... I don't want to try and build a $80 bag, to sell for $20 ya know!... Any thoughts on this? A rolled edge seems kind of labor intensive... Maybe just more fringe?? Quote

Members quirtevans Posted June 9, 2014 Author Members Report Posted June 9, 2014 This is it so far... Granted it's meant for a child.... but it just seems like it needs something on the flap..... Quote
Northmount Posted June 9, 2014 Report Posted June 9, 2014 Maybe move the flowers a little higher on the flap on your next one. Then the spacing will be closer to what the bottom half is. Maybe shorten the latch strap so it doesn't hang below the purse. Looks pretty nice! Tom Quote

I can barely do leather work, let alone, draw or color.. As for the length of the closure strap... I kind of did that on purpose, as a security thing. Since I build holsters, retention is paramount.. So I kind of factor in keeping the things in the purse... in the purse so to speak.. I'll look at it more closely though. Easier to make it shorter than longer!!! Or maybe I'm just over thinking it, and NOT wanting it to resemble the cheap import stuff.... Quote
