Redochre Report post Posted July 5, 2014 I'm looking for a new uk leather supplier, I'm tired of over paying for substandard hides on eBay &leprevo are.....well leprevo. Good old Nigel Armitage recommended metropolitan leather , has anyone else tried them? I've spoken to them on the phone & seem professional. Just £122 for a shoulder is a lot for me. That is a ddelivered to your door price though with vat added.
fivewayswelshcobs Report post Posted July 5, 2014 I have used them several times and had no problems, they also do one off colours which is great for collars, bags etc.
Redochre Report post Posted July 6, 2014 That's good to know. Do you use any other supplier?
Shaunread Report post Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) I've looked into them and plan to use them for my next order, the samples they sent me were outstanding. I do agree though, the pricing is weird and although all of their other products have differing prices for various thicknesses, the dyed shoulder doesnt which seems odd that you pay the same for a 1.5mm hide and a 3-3.5mm hide . One issue I've had with them is contact though, on several occasions their email inbox has been full and I havent been able to complete my enquiries with them, but besides that they seem like a great company to work with! kevinp Report post Posted July 6, 2014 I have used them solely for the last year, and have always had fantastic quick next day service and the leather has always been the high quality that I would expect. I have leather from others but the service having to wait a week for delivery and quality have never been the same with brand marks and other faults. fivewayswelshcobs Report post Posted July 6, 2014 I also use Abbey, Sedgewicks, Marcus Gear, Pittards , Clayton and Bakers depending on what leather I want at the time, prefer Bakers as best harness and bridle leather and I also get a day out on the coast when I go to collect the leather ! Redochre Report post Posted July 11, 2014 The shoulder has arrived. It's a beautiful piece of leather but smells horrible.... Is this normal for high end veg tan?
Hi Im Joe Report post Posted July 11, 2014 Well smell is subjective but I love the smell of veg tan leather so....I'm not sure. I would be wondering why my leather smelled "bad."
Redochre Report post Posted July 11, 2014 Hi Joe. I agree, the smell of natural veg tan is the greatest smell on this planet. The shoulder I have is dark tan & full aniline.... It smells very chemically almost plastic like. I've let it air for a few days & it smells less now.
