Sewing Machine For Inner Tubes

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I know am a little off topic here but am not sure where else to go for help and the more I read the more confused I get! I sew inner tubes into purses, wallets, bags, etc and am getting busier and using my domestic Pfaff Ambition Essential a lot now and it's starting to play up (top thread keeps jamming around the bobbin), I took it back to the shop and they told me I was using the wrong bobbins, I've replaced them and exactly the same thing is happening again.

As it appears I am only going to get busier I've decided to take the plunge and go for an industrial but am not sure where to start! I'd say at worst I'm only going to be sewing four to six layers together. I'm pretty sure I need a walking foot but after that I'm a little stuck. Some stores are saying nothing wrong with Chinese models others are saying avoid! One has recommended a semi industrial which I thought sounded perfect, the UK distributor of it says no way! Then I've started reading about clutch motors and ratios and have got a little scared!

Does anyone have any advice or models to look out for, avoid ?

Any help at all would be fantastic.

Thanks in advance :)

I am very curious about what you are doing. Could you please explain about the inner tubes and what they are used for. Pictures would be nice.

A cylinder arm walking foot machine would be perfect. Look for one that uses standard Singer 111 presser feet and uses standard system 135x17 needles. Most will handle #138 bonded nylon thread, for which #23 needles are perfect.

Hi Jerry,

I upcycle punctured bicycle inner tubes that would normally go into landfill into this kind of thing...

Thanks Wizcrafts, that's really helpful. I'd just kind of assumed a flatbed!

nice idea!

As Wiz mentioned, a cylinder walking foot machine would be perfect for this job. The companies that sell them:

Techsew 2700 or 2750, Cowboy 227, I believe Nick-O-Sewing has them too, probably Artisan as well.

Best regards,

Ron
