Members tossik Posted August 17, 2014 Members Report Posted August 17, 2014 Hi everyone, There is a J. D. Randall Co. Cast Iron Leather Splitter skiver model 8802 8" on ebay right now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-J-D-Randall-Co-Cast-Iron-Leather-Splitter-skiver-model-8802-8-blade-/191280480073?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item2c89347f49 I was wondering if anyone knows what is the max one should pay for one in that shape? I want to bid, but dont know if it is worth it. Thanks! Quote
Members TomG Posted August 17, 2014 Members Report Posted August 17, 2014 Not sure, but note the $45 shipping charge... I bought the Tandy model a while back for $250 on sale a while back. I got the older model and it's pretty rugged, but needed the blade sharpened. But I understand that all except the Weaver model need sharpening... Quote
Moderator bruce johnson Posted August 18, 2014 Moderator Report Posted August 18, 2014 It was worth it to me even though the adjuster screw wasn't original. I got a bit worried because the shipping cost seemed a bit light and passed. It costs me almost that to pack one right and ship it within the US. The handle and the adjuster screw need to be taken off for shipping. Dealing with international insurance on a broken one wasn't something I wanted to risk. I still figured it would go for around $300 or better. Quote

Members J Hayes Posted August 18, 2014 Members Report Posted August 18, 2014 It did seem to go for less than I thought it would, should make a really nice splitter after cleaning and sharpening Quote
Members stevieboy7 Posted August 18, 2014 Members Report Posted August 18, 2014 I was lucky enough to get it!Shipping wise, it was only $30 within Canada. If I want to ship something similar from the States to Canada, 90% of vendors quote $100 plus. So this was a steal. Quote
Members tossik Posted August 18, 2014 Author Members Report Posted August 18, 2014 Stevie, congrats on the buy! I was gonna bid on it, but I had people over and totally forgot to bid Lucky you! Quote
