Members Shooter McGavin Posted August 18, 2014 Members Report Posted August 18, 2014 Ok, so I have been asked if I can build a pancake holster with a "Challenge Coin" to be shown off in the design. Not quite sure how to incorporate this. How have you all done this in the past? Do I just cut an overlay panel with a tight fitting hole and glue the coin in place? I mean, I have no clue at all. Thanks! Quote
Members glockanator Posted August 18, 2014 Members Report Posted August 18, 2014 If it was me I would do a stiffer piece with a hole just smaller then the coin. I would then sew the around the coin as well. Hope this makes sense. Quote
Members camano ridge Posted August 18, 2014 Members Report Posted August 18, 2014 Like this (see picture from Drewdog holsters). Or depnding on how fancy you want to get they sell metal belt buckle bezels for holding coins on belt buckles that can be mounted on the re enforcement piece with screws from the back side. Quote
Members longtooth Posted August 18, 2014 Members Report Posted August 18, 2014 I would silver solder a chicago screw to the back of the coin and attach it to the reinforcement piece on the holster. Then sew the reinforcement piece to the holster. Hope this helps? Quote
Members TXAG Posted August 18, 2014 Members Report Posted August 18, 2014 (edited) You might want to check with the person to make sure it's ok to solder anything to the back of the coin...many times, they have sentimental meaning (and both sides are decorated) and they may not want someone soldering anything to it in case they wanted to remove it later. Also, many coins are enameled (and enameled on both sides)...I'm not sure how enamel will hold up to high heat to solder the screw to it. I'd be angry if someone soldered anything to one of my coins...so...might want to check with them before doing anything like that. Maybe they won't care, but I'd check first.
