roxannelovelace1974 Report post Posted September 7, 2014 Hi there, I am not sure if this old machine will work, it was handed down to me. I know they did alot of work with jean material. I already broke a new machine that I bought at Target (attempting to see if it would work) oops.. Any tips that you have for me as I am brand new to sewing with a machine would be appreciated. I have up until now hand stitched my projects. If anyone knows anything about these machines and can provide some assistance with the basics, I would appreciate it. Thank you Roxanne
Wizcrafts Report post Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) I never heard of that brand. Please post a couple of photos of it, from various angles. Don't bother. That is just an older standard home sewing machine with zig zag. It is not a leather sewing machine. Please read my sticky topic, at the top of this forum's opening page, about the type of machine you need to sew leather. You can avoid a lot of headaches and broken machines if you go for the correct machine from the get-go. Suffice it to say, you probably won't be able to sit the machine on top of a regular table. Rather, it will have a table of its own, with a very large motor under it Edited September 7, 2014 by Wizcrafts
roxannelovelace1974 Report post Posted September 7, 2014 After reading that post, I will stick with Hand stitching. This is too confusing and it sounds like I need to spend too much money for a sewing machine for what is still a hobby for me.. Thank you for your time
Darren Brosowski Report post Posted September 8, 2014 Up to about 4mm a Singer 15 or the Japanese central bobbin machines will sew up to #138 but the ultimate is a Pfaff 30. They are not leather sewing machines but a cheap starter setup and always good for wallet liners. Anything that does a zig-zag is a waste of time for reasons too numerous to mention.
