Members vicroll91 Posted October 5, 2014 Members Report Posted October 5, 2014 Hi guys, I recently stumbled upon an interesting finish, as seen here from Corter Leather http://shop.corterleather.com/collections/frontpage/products/mechanic-s-wallet-hand-waxed-red-lantern The description says the finish is the product of layers of hand-rubbed waxes. Any ideas for reproducing that bright orangeish/red color? Quote
Members MonicaJacobson Posted October 5, 2014 Members Report Posted October 5, 2014 I mix the fiebings dyes and cut them with lacquer thinner. I don't really like the colors straight. Brown is too green, so I usually add some red and yellow, etc. They did get a very even color, though, so I bet they airbrushed. There might even be an antique gel in this color. I've seen a lot of holsters in this color. Quote http://monicajacobson.com/ https://www.etsy.com/shop/TrimGoTrix?ref=si_shop
Members DavidL Posted October 5, 2014 Members Report Posted October 5, 2014 Its called currying leather. Play around with beeswaxes, tallow and animal fat. Im not sure on the last one. After dyeing leather people rub on waxes to get a better hand and protect the leather. Quote
Members vicroll91 Posted October 5, 2014 Author Members Report Posted October 5, 2014 Interesting. I think I'm going to do a little experimentation with beeswax/oil mixes and go from there. Thanks Quote
