  1. Also, I've been messing around with how it feeds. The hook that is in there will grab the top thread. I suppose it's missing just the part that holds the bobbin and tensions the thread. No idea what the two screws are for on this model.
  2. Hey no worries. I'm thinking of taking it to a local shop where he can try out a bunch of different old parts. I believe this to be one of the older versions of this machine as some of the parts on mine don't watch the drawings on the 1920s/30s versions.
  3. Bump - I wonder if it is possible to fit some other model's bobbin case. It is a shuttle hook but it's hard to say what might fit.
  4. Hi all, I recently acquired a Singer 177-2 lockstitch machine. As far as I can tell, and from what little I have gleaned from the internet, it's a simple repair machine with a cylinder arm. You control and feed the work entirely yourself. It's a cool machine, and I plan to use it with some of my high schoolers. I'm curious if anyone has any more info on it as I have found almost nothing, and very little that I could verify. I'm also in need of a bobbin case, and I just don't have the knowledge to know if any other bobbin cases will fit this, as there are simply no old stock parts available for this machine. I'm hoping that the bobbin case it universal and I can just plug and play. I have found the model listed here: link. and the manual and parts list here: Link.
  5. Hey everyone! For sale is a Vergez Blanchard pricking wheel set in excellent used condition. I would put its age at around the 75 year mark. Nice patina on the brass that I've left untouched. Slight pitting on the steel neck, but nothing concerning. Wheels included are 8, 10, and 12 teeth per inch (which is really 7, 9, and 11 stitches per inch). The 10 tooth has a small chip on one of the teeth, but is not noticeable in use. Buy nature of the tool, you are only marking stitches, not making holes. Also included is a false stitch marker, which imprints a stitch in places you would like to appear stitched or designed with the imprint. Really nice set here that has many years of use left! Asking $150 shipped.
  6. I'd be interested in a piece or two of the bridle. I'll keep an eye out for further posts. What's the story on the locks?
  7. Purchased this Blanchard head knife a few months ago. The logo is a little different from most that I've seen. Any idea on the age?
  8. Let me know if you'd be interested in selling any of your prototypes! I recently posted in the wanted section for this style clam as mine is ill-suited to the way I sit and hold my work.
  9. Thanks for the offer. I appreciate you taking the time to find it and take a picture. I currently have a clam that is very similar to the one you have. I'm looking for something a little longer that I can hold at an angle without having to bend too much. Thanks again!
  10. Looking for a Vergez Blanchard/Abbey England style saddler's clam. Not a stitching horse, but a clam held between the legs on an angle. Here's a link to a VB clam: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Vergez-Blanchard-Stitching-Clam-105cm-European-Clamp-stitching-pony-/221959009760?hash=item33adc9b5e0:g:1x4AAOSwRLZT2tcJ Thanks Austin
  11. You can do a double stitch while in the middle of a saddle stitch by looping just one needle back and around. You will end up back where you started but with an extra stitch on both sides.
  12. Thanks all! The W & C bridle is 3-4 oz. I split a strip down to 1.5 oz for the pockets.
  13. - Bifold wallet skived and stitched entirely by hand. Took quite a long time as I've never turned the outside edges like this. Made from Wickett & Craig Dark Brown Bridle Leather. Stitched at 9 stitches per inch. - Bag is made from Horween Essex in "Cedar Ridge." Also stitched by hand. Probably one of my favorite leathers. Burnishes reasonably well and without being too stiff to make a bag from it. Stitched at 7 stitches per inch. Link to album: http://imgur.com/a/fRxg6
  14. Hi, I would be interested in the CS Osborne round knife I see pictured. Shoot me a message with a price and we can work something out. I would also be interested in a leather splitter if you find one. Thanks
  15. I'm going to venture a guess and say that the KE pricking irons are not actually polished but rather, chromed. The finish is much too uniform for me to believe it was polished on a wheel. Not to mention a full polish on the tool is pointless. I prefer the raw steel of a dixon to aid my grip of the tool.
  16. Just started using the six-prong/3mm Euro iron from GoodsJapan. Very happy with it so far. Pricks 8 stitches per inch cleanly, and has a great polish on it that helps with removal. I have a 2.5mm version on the way that I hope to use on wallets after I have skived the edges. Should make a handsome watch strap as well!
  17. Can you tell us a bit about your number of stitches per inch and your thread size? Very fine, detailed style!
  18. HI guys, So I'm about to start in on a billfold, and I have heard that the outside layer of the bill fold is usually oversized slightly so as to allow for the pocket to open up a bit for retrieving cash. About how much longer should I make this outside piece? Thanks
  19. Interesting. I think I'm going to do a little experimentation with beeswax/oil mixes and go from there. Thanks
  20. Hi guys, I recently stumbled upon an interesting finish, as seen here from Corter Leather http://shop.corterleather.com/collections/frontpage/products/mechanic-s-wallet-hand-waxed-red-lantern The description says the finish is the product of layers of hand-rubbed waxes. Any ideas for reproducing that bright orangeish/red color?
  21. Thanks for all of the helpful input. I will probably look into purchasing a slim version from Joseph Dixon.
