Reproducing Corter Leather's 'waxed Red Lantern' Finish

Hi guys,

I recently stumbled upon an interesting finish, as seen here from Corter Leather http://shop.corterleather.com/collections/frontpage/products/mechanic-s-wallet-hand-waxed-red-lantern

The description says the finish is the product of layers of hand-rubbed waxes. Any ideas for reproducing that bright orangeish/red color?

I mix the fiebings dyes and cut them with lacquer thinner. I don't really like the colors straight. Brown is too green, so I usually add some red and yellow, etc. They did get a very even color, though, so I bet they airbrushed. There might even be an antique gel in this color. I've seen a lot of holsters in this color.

Its called currying leather. Play around with beeswaxes, tallow and animal fat. Im not sure on the last one. After dyeing leather people rub on waxes to get a better hand and protect the leather.

Interesting. I think I'm going to do a little experimentation with beeswax/oil mixes and go from there.
