Members Amarine Posted October 6, 2014 Members Report Posted October 6, 2014 Hello y'all, I'm Amarine, a French 23-year-old girl. I'm just out of a year of leather crafting training (for the French people out there, I did a CAP maroquinerie) and I absolutely loved it. The training was focused on luxury leather bags, wallets and other things like that, when I wanted to learn how to carve the leather and make medieval armor (that's how I roll =D ), but it was still a very interesting course to learn the basics of everything leather-related. Now I want to find another craftsman who makes things like I want to do and learn from them! I hope to be able to open my own shop one day. Other than that, I love traveling, movies and shows, I'm also a big gamer and love RPGs. I love sci-fi and fantasy, I love reading, photography, and cooking. And cats. Nice to meet you all! Members DavidL Posted October 7, 2014 Members Report Posted October 7, 2014 Welcome to the forum. Lots of good info on here about medieval armour and tooling leather. Also a few that are interested in making luxury goods in the future, me being on of them. Quote
Members Amarine Posted October 7, 2014 Author Members Report Posted October 7, 2014 During my training course, I was half having classes and half working for a factory making Chanel or Louis Vuitton bags. It was a big factory with alot of people and it was frankly boring to me, because I only got to do a few things and not the most interesting ones that is, I like to make a full piece, from drawing it to making it. But if you're into working for luxury brands like that, well, good too! And thanks for the welcome =) Quote "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us." - J.R.R. Tolkien
Members Thornale Posted October 7, 2014 Members Report Posted October 7, 2014 Hi, That's funny because I did the other way around, I taught myself to work with leather for re-enacting and LARP (armours, shoes, scabbards ...), and now I am starting to build a book with creations of luxury items to validate a "CAP Maroquinerie" as an external candidate. Anyway, welcome here and if you need some French resources about armours let me know ! Quote

King's X Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 Hello Amarine and welcome to the forum. Wow...you have some impressive training there. Quote Greetings from Central Texas! The Grain Side Up blog #TheGrainSideUp
Members Amarine Posted October 10, 2014 Author Members Report Posted October 10, 2014 Hahahah, no, I like both cooking and cats, not cookings cats! x) That would be gross. Poor things never asked for this. Thanks for the welcomes, and about my training, it was really just the basics so it's not really impressive... I would have liked to spend more time learning, that's for sure! Quote "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us." - J.R.R. Tolkien
Members MonicaJacobson Posted October 10, 2014 Members Report Posted October 10, 2014 Hi Amarine, sounds like you have some fun ideas. They are several people on the forum into making armor and LARP stuff. While I'm not into it myself, I have a soft spot for armor, and like to see what people make!
