Syd Report post Posted January 23, 2008 Hi, Im just planning ahead of my project and trying to find answers. Quetions 1. what kind of lacing do i need to lace a motorcyle seat, Width, thickness, flat or round lace. 2. How do i know what length of lace to use doing double cross stitch. 3. the top of the seat and side are they glued together before stitching,or is it just th lace holding it. 4.do i use a pencil to mark out the line that shows where the lacing holes go,if i do use a pencil will this show through brown dye. 5. Im fitting the new leather to a standard Harley Davidson seat,do i glue the foam of the seat and stick new leather on to the foam,or do i just put the leather on dry a rivet it underneath. 6. When fitting the seat for the first time do i soak the whole seat, would this damage the tooling being soaked over, when do i dye seat after or before soaking the seat to fit, thats if i have to soak the seat to get the shape. Sorry about all the question but im new and need help. Syd

Syd hi syd... lots of questions here.... 1. flat, 1/8" or 3/16" roo is the strongest 2. depends on the hole spacing but, 4 to 6 times the total legnth. i use shorty legnths and splice it. 3. i just lace 4. never use a pen pr pencil! use a scribe like you would to trace a pattern on to the leather. 5. it is best to glue the top to the foam to keep it in place. 6. it would be best to not soak your tooling and the dyeing should be done after it's fitted. refer to my thread post above and let me know if i can answer any other questions

Roger Report post Posted January 26, 2008 i dy right overe it. i almost always use black lace so, any lighter color (brown, tan, red ect.) won't change a thing
Syd Report post Posted January 26, 2008 (edited) Hi Bezza, Many thanks for your help. Its great getting help like this as there is no Leathercraft Courses over here. Went into your webaite some real nice stuff you make,it was the finnish of the seat (Colour) that done it for me. Hidemechanic Report post Posted January 27, 2008 Hey Beez, what if you were going to have a different color lace wouldn't you want to dye your lace edges, do the lacing then finish dying after lace is done? Or have you guys been talking about black and I missed it? GH
Roger Report post Posted January 27, 2008 what ever works. i use black 99% of the time. the few times that they wanted something different the customer wanted it the same color as the seat so, i used natural roo and dyed the whole thing
