One String Nose Button

Recommended Posts

Kassidy, I don't know what your skill level is, so this may or may not help. The one string nose button is just a long 4 or 6 bight turkshead with either a pineapple or gaucho interweave. I start out with a long string about 16 ft. for the base knot & go however far that goes & then finish up with a 12 ft. string. Once you've done a few you can adjust your lengths (if you want to change colors for your interweave). Hope this helps. Buck

Thanks buck. The part I'm having a hard time remembering is building the foundation knot. I remember you spiral up and back to make X's but after that I'm lost

Kassidy, Look on the internet for instructions for a long 4 bight turkshead that's all the base for the one string nose button is & there should be some instructions for raising it to a 6 bight too if you need to. Good luck. Buck

Personally it's much easier to use the multi string button to make that long of a knot rather than pulling all the length of one string through the braiding.

I'm with Rawhidelady. I think the multiple string button is easier to handle and less confusion for me. Once you figure out the foundation and turn back, you can take off and finish pretty easy. Just my opinion. Brad

Although I don't use the multi string nose button, but I agree with Brad & Rawhidelady that it is simpler, the turnbacks are about the only confusing part. Grant's book has good directions for it. Buck

Thank you for the help everyone. I agree the multi string is a lot easier. Just wanted to know both methods of doing a nose button and couldn't remember the one string method but I think I've about got it. But thanks again for all your responses and help

Many people also prefer braiding it on. Alan Bell has a really good tutorial on here of his method which is kind of a hybred of braiding & the multi string method. Buck

Bryan Neubert's first video explains the multiple string button real well. He uses 4 strings but it applies to any number.
