Made this sheath for a customer. All hand stitched. I used Fiebings Mahogany Oil Dye and Tan Kote for the finish.

All comments welcome.

Looks great, I really like those full sheaths as opposed to just a mask to cover the edge. I need to make one for my camp axe like that one of these days just need to get through the rest of my work first.

Are my eyes deceiving me? Are there 4 layers at the haft?

Yes, four layers at the haft, then feathered down to three layers across the cutting edge.

I'm glad I'm not going blind! Nice job! I'm pretty new to the craft. It would be cool to see a tutorial on that. How deep does the middle layer around the blade edge go?

It goes in from the edge about 1/2". 1/4" past the stitches. It is also glued with Barge cement.

Thanks for the continued info. Did you stitch all three layers at the same time? If so, how much more difficult is that than just stitching two layers together?

I stitched all of it at the same time. More layers makes it a bit more difficult but not too bad. I punched the holes for the stitching by putting an awl needle in my drill press, that way I was able to punch the holes straight through and the stitching is straight on both sides of the project. Might not be the traditional way of punching the stitching holes but it works great for me. I use lacing pliers to persuade the needles and thread to go through the holes.

Work smarter, not harder. That's a great idea using the drill press!

Hey many Thanx Rohn !

I'm designing an axe sheath at present, and was stumped as to some sort of an original idea.

This looks good enough to steal from you ? If you woulden't mind ?

Great works, Congratulations ! Wild Bill46
