Members Gump Posted December 3, 2014 Members Report Posted December 3, 2014 Has anyone used #5 dye prep ? I had some tucked away and decided to try some to get the gloss off the surface of the leather. The instructions say to work prep into leather with a brush and then wipe off excess and dye while still wet. Well the dye reacted like oil on water and beaded up and absorbed all blotchy. I sprayed it with Feibings med brown, which usually gives a nice even finish. This dye prep smells like ammonia. Does anyone have any experience with this product, and how it should work ? Gump Quote
NVLeatherWorx Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 I have never used this product as I still use Oxalic Acid prior to any finishing. It has been around much longer than the Dye Prep or any of the other items and if I ever have to remove any "shine" or "gloss" from the leather (it would be assumed that this leather has been finished before) then I just use Deglazer and call it a day. Sorry I can't help here. Quote
