Carrieanna1172 Report post Posted January 27, 2015 Question: I admit I have done zero leg work in looking for a new machine I'm hoping one of you fine fellows can lead me in the right direction. I am thinking of buying a new machine but I would like one with all the bells and whistles Definitely reverse stitching , Thread cutting, auto up down needle position, Extra large bobbin ! And maybe someone a dealer who could service it in Illinois? Iowa or missouri even This may be a pipe dream just because if something like this exists it's probably well out of my price range but it's good to have a base to start I sew mostly mens bags, rucksacks , back packs and the like but My goal is to transition into holsters and Knife sheaths I bought a used consew 227 last year and it is great to work on ! I have learned a lot about working with leather but I want more features?
Carrieanna1172 Report post Posted January 27, 2015 Ps my other machines for my everyday sewing are computerized Janome embroidery machines I know this may mean nothing to you but just trying to give you an idea of what I am used to working on
JLSleather Report post Posted January 27, 2015 You may want to think it from the other way around. Since you're not "set" on a brand, perhaps consider finding the dealer or service center in your area first, then see what they have or at least what they service. If holsters and knife sheaths are as heavy as you expect it to get, then you'll have a wide range of possible options. Leather will be 1/4 - 3/8" thick for most of those projects, so any machine capable of sewing 1/2" with up to about a 25 needle and 277 thread should be fine. Carrieanna1172 Report post Posted January 28, 2015 jlseather- yes I would love that if I could find anyone even remotely near me that was a dealer? I have googled to no end I have called my local Cinsumer machine dealer and mechanic he referred me to someone he heard of in St. louis not to terribly far but that guy apparently is out of business? Anyway not really finding a dealer near me Chicago was the other pop up I got in my search I would prefer St. Louis over Chicago but ? Idk Cobra Steve I will Definitly do that ! I was hoping to find someone close to me just because Im intimidated by prospect of yearly servicing and if there is a mechanical issue? But I will call to discuss
Wizcrafts Report post Posted January 28, 2015 Toledo Industrial Sewing Machines is in Toledo, Ohio, possibly a less than 5 hour drive. Dealers who cater to leather crafters are the exception, not the rule. Show some lurve and click the ad banners at the top, then call or email them with your request for help finding the right machine.
