Members rmr Posted March 2, 2015 Members Report Posted March 2, 2015 Getting ready to try making a watch band. Planning on using either .6mm Tiger thread or 532 or 632 Lin Cable thread. I need to get an appropriately sized awl blade- would like recommendation on size ( just guessing the smaller the better) and where to get. I currently use a Bob Douglas awl blade- but its for stitching with 207 or 277 size thread Thanks Quote
alexitbe Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 (edited) In Valerie Michaels book, she recommends: leather thickness stitches per inch thread size needle size awl size 1mm or less 12 35/3 6-7 1 3/4" 1.5mm 10 30 or 25/3 5-6 2" Hope that helps. Alex Edited March 3, 2015 by alexitbe Quote
Members apriori Posted March 6, 2015 Members Report Posted March 6, 2015 I just bought this awl from rocky mountain supply http://www.rmleathersupply.com/collections/tools/products/vergez-blanchard-diamond-awl-38mm its 2.3 mm wide at the widest point. It was the smallest one I found when shopping around. I am using it for my blanchard pricking iron (9spi). Quote
Members rmr Posted March 6, 2015 Author Members Report Posted March 6, 2015 thank you for the replies- I have also been looking at the same awl from Rocky Mountain. Was also planning on using it with a Blanchard 9spi pricking iron Quote
