Modad2010 Report post Posted March 10, 2015 I have a guy that wants 2 El Dorado type rigs. I mostly do concealed stuff, so I went and bought the El Dorado pattern. It recommends using 9/10oz for the for the belt 8/9 for the holster and 4/5oz for for the liner and cartridge loops. I have a W/C double shoulder in 7/8oz. Would it be ok to use that doubled up for the holster and belt and then get some 4/5 for the loops or would I need to get three different weights to do these rigs? Two pieces 7/8 will be 14/16 and will be slightly thicker then the pattern is designed for just allow for that when cutting out your pattern. Are you making the two piece belt with the tapered end? camano ridge Report post Posted March 10, 2015 Modad, if you are using the WIll Gohrmley Eldarado pattern pack. There are three belt patterns The first one is more or less a ranger belt with a Chape (buckle end) and the tongue (billet). The second one is a cobbled belt that started out as the first belt then extended by lacing a narrowed down (1 1/2") section to the main belt body. To me 7/8 oz unlined would be a little light for that style belt. 9/10 or above would be better. The third style belt is the rough out money/cartridge belt. 7/8 oz folded over would be a little heavy for that. You would have a difficult time getting a flat fold. FYI Spring field leathersells cartridge loop strips pre cut in different widths. I think around $5.00 for 50 or 60" strip. if you are only doing one or two cartridge belts it is cheaper then buying a 4/5 oz side to cut strips off of. I actually used 8/9 with 4/5 for the liner on the holster, doubled up 8/9 for the belt with 4/5 for the cartridge loops. I am pleased with the outcome, but not satisfied.
