horseplay Report post Posted March 24, 2015 Was wondering if anyone has tried using a strong double sided tape for seams rather than glue? I used to work in the sign industry and we used a high quality double sided acrylic tape from Tesa for banner seams etc. I have a little left over at home and found it works well for setting up seams to sew. It's quicker and cleaner than using my Barge glue.
veedub3 Report post Posted March 24, 2015 I use it a lot and have been for years. Tandy, Springfield, Sailrite, and I am sure other leather suppliers sell it for that exact purpose. Karina

Geoff Report post Posted March 24, 2015 I use 3M tape at 0.25" width. In some circumstances, I find it better than glue.

Wicked Welts Report post Posted March 24, 2015 (edited) I have yet to use it on leather but on other stuff I've had great results with Sailrite's basting tape and it's proven to be a better buy than all of my local offerings. http://www.sailrite.com/Basting-Tape# EDIT for spelling. Redochre Report post Posted March 24, 2015 I use the tesa tape sometimes too! It is amazingly strong. Downside is that it gums your awl and needles up. It can give you grief burnishing the edge too. Plus side is there are no drying times, it sticks VERY well and no fumes/mess to deal with.

So you may wish to use the reference ' basting tape' in your search . Hope this helps HS
