carr52 Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 I joined the wholesale club and have saved 50 times what it cost me. Tom Quote
Members DavidG Posted November 24, 2008 Author Members Report Posted November 24, 2008 Thanks for all the great info. Sorry it took until now to respond. I will definitely see if the wholesale club membership can be purchased with the discount. If it can, great. If not, I'll get it on my 2nd purchase. I'm on a very tight budget(I'm getting married in less than a year!) and need to have my initial investment have as many things to use "right now" as possible. I'm either going with: 1. The Deluxe Kit with some add ons (flask kit, rounders) or 2. Basic Kit, Round Knife, Snap/Rivet Setter Kit, Leatherwork Tools book, and a few stamps and leather with what's left. The first will be easier, but the second will give me the basic tools and then I'll have to go from there. Still not sure which way I want to go. But, if I can talk the manager into giving the same deal that the Ventura store is having I'll probably go with the Deluxe Kit & accessories and throw in a round knife and the tools book. I can't wait until Friday so I can finally get started. Quote
Members calanneh Posted November 26, 2008 Members Report Posted November 26, 2008 Hey David! I doubt you can use the discount on the wholesale club purchase, but my Tandy gives the wholesale club discount to customers on their first purchase at our store. Just as a thank you for trying us out kinda thing...... William Quote William Tandy Store #17 800-772-2629 Union City, CA

Leather Flask Kit #200 Beveler Modeling Tool 25pk Leather Rounds So, I need to go find a scrap of granite and I'm ready to roll. Thanks again for all the great advice! Quote
MADMAX22 Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Thats great. Welcome to the thing that will eat up alot more money and time then you thought possible. You faired far better then I did on my first shopping spree at tandy. I picked up way to much stuff today at the tacoma one. Also got a couple of those 3/4oz tooling sides. They werent too bad. Seem to be pretty clean for the craftsman selection, Wanted to add that they had a decent amount of the saddle sides or whatever they are for $87 I think it was. Something like 45% off so it was a pretty good deal I just didnt have any more money lol. Quote
Members wildrose Posted November 28, 2008 Members Report Posted November 28, 2008 I'm just popping in real quick after placing an order with the Allentown Tandy this evening. They wanted me to mention (and someone may have already) that they are also offering big discounts first thing tomorrow morning. I order from them all they time and they are a great group of people. I'm sure they're not the only store with sales, though, so if you have a local favorite, then by all means "shop 'til you drop" (or are broke...) carr52 Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Yep, I too went to the local Tandy's. Got to meet another forum member. It's nice to put a face to the name. Picked up one of the sides that were on sale. Got a real nice one. 24sq.ft. and very clean. But I made one mistake, I bought Bruce Grants Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding. Now I wont be content till I have read it at least twice and braided a cow. From what I've seen just flipping through it, it looks like a great book. Also got a bunch of other stuff that I "needed". Yeah right. Ya got me, I just wanted it. Tom Quote
