Members yldbill Posted April 29, 2015 Members Report Posted April 29, 2015 I am in the process of designing my first CCW gun belt and all the info says to get a double thickness belt for full size weapons. My question is,where do you end the double thickness at up near the buckle end? I can't imagine bending double thick leather around the center bar on a buckle. I am planning on using 2 layers of 8/9 oz leather,is that about normal for 2x thickness? Quote
Members Troy Burch Posted April 29, 2015 Members Report Posted April 29, 2015 I skive the buckle end before I glue them together, it looks much more professional than an abrupt cut off and leaving the rough back showing. Two layers of 8 or 9oz leather should be plenty thick. Quote
Members Trevor Posted April 29, 2015 Members Report Posted April 29, 2015 You can always use another wrap around piece of leather, separate from the belt. to go around the buckle and sew it to the double piece. make sense?? I make heavy leather belts all the time. This is one way around your problem. Can look very nice as well if you shape the bit the attaches on the top. Here is a picture for you to contemplate.
