Hello all, in the process of making my first gun holster. after I moulded the holster, I glued a decorative strap over it, which I then I had to sew on. I had a hell of a time trying to drill holes where the stitching will be going on the convex portion. I ended up flatening that area so that I could drill it. is there an easier way to do this? thanks

Put the strap on first before molding. When the leather is still a flat piece.

If you stick your head in the sand, you may get your ass shot off.

Sewing on the strap prior to molding will cause problems because the bonded layers will want to remain flat.

Now, there is a solution to your problem. It may not be easier and using a drill (yuk) can be used but will require you to build a curved jig.

In the photo you can see that an awl is used with a double layered leather pad to punch thru while the bonded leathers retain the curved shape.

Not easier, but it works really well.
