Members badger Posted November 26, 2008 Members Report Posted November 26, 2008 Guys, I'm after reference books on historic, Western gunleather. I've just ordered 'Packing Iron', but wondered if you guys had any suggestions for other good reference material. I'm more interested in historically accurate reference, rather than Hollywood gunleather. Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers, Karl Quote
Ambassador Luke Hatley Posted November 26, 2008 Ambassador Report Posted November 26, 2008 THAT IS A GREAT BOOK.. Quote
Contributing Member UKRay Posted November 26, 2008 Contributing Member Report Posted November 26, 2008 As Luke says, that really is a great book, but you might also find a copy of 'The Gunfighters' - part of the Time Life 'Old West' series - useful as the pictures (a huge collection of genuine photographs) are, IMHO invaluable from an historical perspective. Members Rayban Posted November 27, 2008 Members Report Posted November 27, 2008 badger...after readin Packin Iron again, I can't see how you would need any other book for historical reference. Most of that book covers the real deal type gun leather, and only devotes a few pages to the Hollywood types. You'll see..... Quote
Members badger Posted November 27, 2008 Author Members Report Posted November 27, 2008 I appreciate that. In the course of my work I've learned to research things very carefully and from as wide a perspective as possible. So I'll always look for several sources of the same material to be sure. Thanks very much though, I'll look forward to Santa bringing the book. Cheers, Karl Quote
