Looking For Advise On The Aftermarket Foot Sets For Pfaff 335

In the past I bought industrial sewing machine supplies from Jim Tally Inc on the ebay.

I bought lots of feet for Juki 553 and lots of needles for all my machines from them and never had issues.

So when I got Pfaff I too bought a zipper set, plain set (double-sided outside foot) and two sizes of welting feet (still in transit).

But the inside and outside zipper foot and inside plain foot that I received did not fit on the bars.

The outside plain foot fit the slot, but it is twisted ever so slightly to the right that it would interfere with the inside foot (if it only fit!).

I could ream the inside foot cavities and I do not actually mind buying a couple reamers in that size, but the totality of this purchase just sounds wrong.

Is it common that aftermarket foot sets require fitting?

Can anyone recommend a more reliable supplier?

I've ordered presser feet for my Pfaff 335 from Sharp Sewing on Ebay and directly from a manufacturer Kwok Hing in China. Both sets of presser feet fit very nicely on the round presser foot bar and are of what I consider nice quality.

There are only a few manufacturers of aftermarket presser feet, which are then resold by many resellers/suppliers. Some parts have markings that identify the manufacturer, which is generally a good sign, I think. If you make something and you don't want people to know that you made it, you're not super proud of your work.

If the supplier is large enough (e.g. Weaver Leather), they may contract directly with a manufacturer (usually in China) to make custom parts for them which only they will sell.

I've ordered a few original Pfaff parts that were missing on my 335 machine from AAAsew.com, which is based in Canada. Their online ordering does not work well, but I managed to order hard-to-find OEM parts from them for a reasonable price twice in the past.

The suppliers advertising on this site might be a good resource as well, since you can actually talk to them on the phone and ask about fit and finish, and origin of the parts.

I'm attaching a few pictures of my presser feet so you can see the markings. The left foot is from Kwok Hing - they either put their part number on parts or a logo that looks like a K and H overlaid on top of each other. I don't know who makes the right foot in the pictures - all I know is that Sharp Sewing sells it.

Are those chrome plated?

Mine are bare steel and they look different.

They're not plated but rather solid metal as far as I know. I made some adjustments to the images to make the markings more visible, which also gave the images a more chrome-like look.

The inside foot I bought the machine with was chrome plated. The outside foot was not.

Ended up borrowing my son's dremel tool and cleaning up the holes in the inside feet. Now they fit. The presser bar is metric 5mm while the holes were oval 4.9 x 5.05.

He also grinded the outside foot which did not fit.

And then I had to enlarge the screw holes in both the outside feet to allow the screw to go all the way through.

Guess I will have to do that again for the welting foot sets.

I recently had to return some spring presser feet for my straight stitch machine because they were bent and misaligned. The dealer cheerfully replaced them and sent a prepaid return envelope.

Have you contacted the supplier? If not then you are acting in poor faith.

Every supplier here knows that there can be variations from one batch of product to the next and we are not able to test every item. Unless customers let us know there is a problem then we keep shipping them.

If the supplier does not respond to the issue then change suppliers.

I have no idea what acting in poor faith means for me as a customer, but I also do not have time for back and forth with the suppliers and have no desire to fund the postal service with its exorbitant shipping rates.

So out comes a dremel and the supplier is on their own dealing with the consequences of shipping out garbage products. To bad so sad.

The end user should not be in charge of quality control. Parts with oval holes that should be round should never leave the factory.

Oh, boy. Another order arrived that I put before knowing the first couple of feet did not fit.

First they created a shipping label but USPS never scanned it. Tracking been like that for 2 weeks, when I followed up they said "Okay, we will ship again". Huh.

Out of 2 welting feet ordered one does not fit. Both inside and outside feet have to be grinded. Another set fits perfect - hit and miss quality.

And they shipped wrong size/system needles just like in the first order.

This is such a waste of time, I wonder if the old owner sold the business since I shopped there last time.
