Members chapelstone Posted June 28, 2015 Members Report Posted June 28, 2015 I have started making some coasters. I finish them just like my other work. I oil, let it dry; rub in bic conditioner, let it dry, finish with tan kote. I like the way they look when they are finished but after some use they get a white cloudiness that is hard to rub off. Do they need to be water proofed. Quote
Members Halitech Posted July 1, 2015 Members Report Posted July 1, 2015 The tan kote should waterproof them. How long are you letting them dry between each step? Quote
Members chapelstone Posted July 2, 2015 Author Members Report Posted July 2, 2015 I let them dry over night before each step. They look very good when finished but after a month of use they get cloudy (kind of a white film) Quote
Members chapelstone Posted July 2, 2015 Author Members Report Posted July 2, 2015 It is hard to take a picture but here it is. Quote
Members Halitech Posted July 2, 2015 Members Report Posted July 2, 2015 If you can rub it off, even slightly, then to me it's something topside. I've never seen tan kote do that before Quote
Members chapelstone Posted July 2, 2015 Author Members Report Posted July 2, 2015 It does rub off and looks good but then it comes back again with in a few days. I have not seen it before either. Quote
Members chapelstone Posted July 6, 2015 Author Members Report Posted July 6, 2015 I think I found it. Black Rock seems to have solved the problem? Quote
Members sreyasemaj Posted July 11, 2015 Members Report Posted July 11, 2015 I'm curious to know what the solution to the issue was. Quote
Members chapelstone Posted July 11, 2015 Author Members Report Posted July 11, 2015 I rubbed it with a leather conditioner called Black Rock. You have to be careful not to put to much. I always used it to condition boots and saddles and it weathers well. So far so good. Then film has not come back. Quote
