So I am a complete new guy to this. I shoot a lot, and wanted to build some shotgun shell pouches. I am having a heck of a time, trying to figure out patterns, that look so easy, but are not. Man I have a new respect for my mom, and how easy she made sewing look when we were kids!

So here is a link to a pouch I am looking at making. My stitching is getting pretty decent, but my patterns are not so hot.

Here is the question: what will this gusset look like? I have figured out, that a straight strip, does not work very well at all.

Sorry for all the questions, but I am beyond frustrated. I am usually pretty good at detail stuff, but this....this sucks. Thanks for the help guys, Josh

Tandy Leathercraft Library has a pattern for a Shot Shell Bag for downloading. If you need assistance with assembly they also have a video.
