I recently purchased a bottle of Fiebing's spirit-based dye in the color Turquoise. I made a bracelet for my wife this afternoon and wanted to use the new color. I was very disappointed to find the color was more of a bright blue than turquoise. I spray my dyes and had to do 2-3 coats to get coverage. The shade looked good as I was spraying then dried TOTALLY different. What can I do to achieve a more traditional turquiose (greenish-blue) rather than a blue-blue?

Any help/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I'm using the alcohol based dyes as well and have to say that the color rarely comes out as shown on the chart. Lots of it has to do with the leather being used. It had better results when I swiped the leather with some alcohol to get some saturation.

This being said, in your case I would probably try to mix the green and blue pro (oil based) dyes and apply it with a moistened sponge. But honestly this is just a guess.

Hi Jon, i have given up with the spirit based dyes for a number of different reasons, have you tried the fiebings pro oil dyes, i have found these to be far superior to the spirit based dyes, i cannot promise that you will achieve the colour you want though as i mainly use browns and blacks.I thhink it might be better if you make some swabs of different colors and dilute strengths and then choose the color from those, i think that most color charts rarely look the same after application because there are so many other factors that could affect the final color, hope that helps a bit. Also i have heard people recommend Al Stohlmans book coloring leather, but i do not own that book myself.
