45K25

Hello everyone,

I have the possibility to acquire a vintage 45K25 , but there is a small hitch.

It is the pedal model without motor , but with the complete stand. I have nobody to help me get it ,and it is in the third floor of a house , do you know if the stand can be dismounted into different pieces ?

I know I can carry the machine itself , but the stand is a bitch ....

And as we are on the subject, anything special i should know about that machine, ? Is it easy to motorize , etc....

I motorized my 45k. It wasn't difficult.

I don'tknow what kind of stand you're referring to. Can you post some pictures?

Generally, if a machine goes onto a stand, it'll come off without too much hassle.

As far as motorizing, you need to buy the right motor (clutched) and make sure the leather or rubber drive belt is correctly tensioned.

I think I did not express myself properly, it is a treadle machine and it has a cast iron stand holding the treadle , The machine itself can be separated from the stand+treadle but then I still have that big cast iron table loke very heavy thing to carry down LOL so I want to try to take it apart further .

Do you like the machine ? anything special it cant do , or I should not do with it ?

Hi Patrick,

We have a 45K25 which is fitted to a powered stand and although it can be treadled you will find it a lot easier if you obtain an industrial clutch motor for it (You'll need at least an 0.5 H.P one for best results). I don't know how things are in France, but in the UK you can buy new stands and motors fairly cheaply, and second hand ones even cheaper.

The 45K25 was used for closing heavy boots and shoes, as well as general leather work. It was fitted with a roller presser as standard, so you can sew very close to the edges on inside and outside curves. As it is simple drop feed, without any vibrating or alternating presser foot mechanism, it's best to use it only for fairly level work. I use ours mostly for making leather cartridge belts, as the roller presser allows me to get close up when sewing on the cartridge loops.

if the Cast Iron Stand is the one that Pedals backwards (not Treadles) don't put a Motor on it. Use it as it is the best ever made for Leatherwork. I still use mine for 45K work as it is strong and accurate as well as giving total control over your work. I've been using them like this for 45 years. I'ts like have a servo Motor as your Feet control the position that you stop the needle. Yes the Stand will come apart, it takes a bit to do so and reassemble. I once took the Wooden Benchtop off and manhandled the base down steps from the 3rd floor of an old Building on a hand Trolley, heavy but achieveable. I hope this may of help to you. Kindest regads.

Thank you very much , I will immediately ask the seller if the needle stops where one wants,I am not sure that I understand what you mean by pedalling backwards ? the machine was made 1914 just before the beginning of WW1 , in Scotland.

you are being very helpful and are lifting my spirit , I hope I will be able to dismount the stand , anyhow I will bring my tools and a trolley and have a go at it .

I will post pictures as soon as I get it , and hopefully have it working
