Here's the latest seat i finished

Dyed with vinegaroon and finished with super sheen

Exactly. Good job on the wood grain. So, how'd ya do it? That vinegaroon method works great, eh? Did you soak the project in it or use a dauber/applicator? The photo appears to show the fine cuts didn't get dyed.

when i started this project i had no idea how i was going to do wood grain, i have done small things that i would scratch and it looked OK , but this big of a cross would show the scratching too much.

I started looking at wood and grain and i downloaded pictures of wood grain and practiced on scape with the swivel knife until it looked OK.

The vinegaroon was applied with sheep wool, it is dyed all over and in the cracks, it's just a bad photo.
