dfrancorr Report post Posted September 29, 2015 Hello everyone! I have someone asking me to make a get back whip for them in certain colors, but I'm very new to braiding and not sure where to find 1/2" leather strands about 72" long and in assorted colors? Any help would be great. Thanks!
KnotHead Report post Posted September 29, 2015 Packer Leather Tannery in Australia. Hardtkey in El Paso TX. 1/2" leather strips are much easier to make on your own. But if you're new to braiding, cutting your own lace will prove to be a challenge. Especially if you don't have the tools to do it with. Which brings me to this point. We as all of us on the board here, don't know just where your skill level is. So, we can make suggestions all day long. But your skill level is going to determine whether you're successful or not. I'd go with Packer Leather Tannery in Australia for your half inch lace. They either have that in stock or they can cut it for you. Another option is to see if anyone here has that much hide on hand and have them cut it for you. Hope this helps a bit. Brian...
dfrancorr Report post Posted September 29, 2015 Thanks for your quick response. I don't have the tools to cut it myself, but if this turns out to be a reoccurring request for me, I may look into necessary tools. For now, I'll check out Packer Leather Tannery. Ccastle27 Report post Posted September 29, 2015 I spoke with Peter Hardtke recently - they are currently re-building their business after the passing of Charles last year; relocating etc. I asked him about lace etc. They are currently not carrying it, but do have some plans to expand their offer. Wouldn't hurt for more customers to ask about it =) In the past I've purchased 4mm Packer lace through Hardke. excellent quality - so, yes, Packer is a great recommendation IMO. -C

25b Report post Posted September 30, 2015 (edited) I've been very satisfied with 'roo lace from Knotty Linda (Vancouver, B.C.). Lots of widths and lots of colors. address removed She sells Packer lace and upcharges it. You'd probably get a better deal directly from Packer. Also, that linda woman is in canada, so if you're in the US, you'd still have di deal with international shipping either way.I cut my own lace now, but when I bought lace, I bought from Peter at Leatheroo.com. I highly recommend going with him...he's nice and his prices are better. He can be reached at sales@leatheroo.com.
