HC009 Report post Posted October 18, 2015 Hi does anyone here who maybe has a 45k89 singer ever experienced the problem of having unwaxed linen thread in a spool being thread up on the machine but then from the spool to the first tension spring clamp the area between there - the thread goes loopy and then gets stuck. I think this is a problem with the thread as someone told me that it goes loopy. Does anyone have any idea how to make the thread taughter so it does not do this. I can't think of anyway to stop this from happening. Any ideas most welcome. Regards.
jimi Report post Posted October 18, 2015 Hi There, i dont have a 45k89 but a 45k21 and others, this also happened to me with a cone of bonded nylon, so i ended up making a large wooden bobbin and stuck it on the bobbin post so as it could turn. i was only guessing but it seems to have solved the problem with that spool at least. iam not sure about unwaxed linen thread? is it for machine work? or could it be the wrong twist? you say that it is on a spool on the machine? so i assume it is turning around the post also?. could you send a picture of the machine and bobbin? i love these old machines and would be interested in knowing more about the things that people sew on the various classes of this machine. your machine has the jump foot if iam not wrong?? what things do you sew on your machine and what are the results?? dont mean to be nosey? does your machine mark up a lot the leather? or do you use any of the many attachments that were available for this class of machine?? the 45k89 had an array of binder, welting attachments, or for sewing rope into bag handles and for saddlery work, feet with 2 prongs etc... but unfortunately is not seen these days. so does every one just make belts with their 45s?? sorry for raveling on! here is a manual for the 45k machine incase you do not have one, regards jimi http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=61619&hl=%2Bsinger+%2B45k+%2Bmanual
