I just purchased a seven piece leather tool. There is one tip in the set that this beginner doesn't know about.

It is the tip next to the allen wrench in the attached picture. The picture is not really large enough to show

the tip form clearly. It is a flat spoon shape with no sharp edges.

Can someone tell me what it is and what it is for?

Description of tool and uses said: "

  • ONE TOOL, MULTIPLE USES; it is a single tool with multiple bits that handle any task related to leather sewing. It works as a stitching groover, edge creaser, bevel leather edges, rough edges trimmer and stitching-hole spacer.

spoon tool would be the edge creaser.... you set the distance from the edge and it will crease a line on the leather following the edge

Thanks for the reply.

.I presently don't have any veg cured leather to test it on. I tried it on a piece of thick finished leather and

it just barely made a dent. I will be going to Tandy Leather Saturday;.maybe someone there can demo it for me.

The one in the tool is stitch groove. Sometimes they work sometimes not. The ends with splits are edgers for cutting the sharp edge off after you cut you leather.

I bought one of those tools, and the stitch groove tool is not too bad, and I do use it on occation. Although no doubt the quality varies from tool to tool, the edge cutters on mine do a good job too.

It will certainly give you a chance to try out several tools without having to fork out a lot of money. But I can guarantee that as soon as you really get into leatherwork, you'll be upgrading to better, individual tools.
