Wet Molding With Blue Guns

Recommended Posts

I have always used real guns for my holsters. I like them to be tight but break in well. Sometimes my stitching is tight and getting the gun into the unmolded holster is tough. It dries and breaks in nice, but starts out like a vise.

I made one holster with a blue gun and immediately learned that the size was not exact. That was an early holster and it eventually broke in. But it was a bear. So my question is that... What is the best dummy gun out there for wet molding, and how do you all account for the size difference? I have seen some options, but I would really like to swap away from my real firearms. I have done quite a bit of searching but never quite found what I was looking for.

Thanks so much in advance,

Adam

The only one problem I ever had, . . . used a blue gun full size 1911, . . . it was to be for an older Springfield stainless (Loaded???) 1911.

The slide was definitely wider on the real gun, . . . messed up the whole thing.

BUT, . . . that is THE ONLY problem I've ever had.

YMMV

May God bless,

Dwight

One of the ways is to measure the slide of both if you can, the people over at multi-molds that sell a lot of molds to the kydex makers has posted a pdf on their website as to what some of the dimensions are. What a lot of the kydex guys do if a mold is undersize is to tape the mold up until it matches or is close to what the size should be. I would think that if the mold is larger depending on what it is made of you could sand some down till it is close to dimensions that you need.

Hope this helps
