tossik Report post Posted March 28, 2016 I have been looking for a Fortuna Bell Skiver for some time with no luck here in the states, and have looked at them on Alibaba and they have a ton of them coming from China. Average price for skiver is $600-1200 depending on model plus around $200 to ship it to states. I also found sewing machines and 20 ton presses for below average prices so it is tempting. Has anyone had any experience with them or someone similar that would export from there?
Thor Report post Posted March 29, 2016 I stopped ordering with Alibaba or Aliexpress, same company, because I ended up having to deal with too many disputes. One vendor claimed to have an item shipped, but provided a faked tracking number, another one marked it shipped, but it never arrived and so on. Further the support there is kind, but very incompetent. It's too much stress to deal with them. Even though it's tempting to save some money, the stress you may have if something goes wrong isn't worth it. If it come to machinery I usually contact the Sieck company in Germany first. Prices are fair and the service is great. Here are some Skivers http://www.sieck.de/en/machines/skiving/leather-goods-and-automotive-interieur/ Don't know about the shipping rates though. Darren Brosowski Report post Posted April 20, 2016 nstarleather, I am not sure why you call this a bad experience. Shipping by air is roughly ten times the price so no cheaper overall. As an importer it is up to you to know the costs at your end and that is an international expectation. It is not up to the seller to know or help you with problems at your end. Do your homework. Importers have to make a profit and some of what you are paying for is their knowledge of how to minimise the landing costs.
