This is my first attempt at tooling/carving.

i like the way it came out but will change a lot in technique and shading.

I can see the carving, not so much the tooling unless it's all hidden under the strap going around it.

And I'm wondering why the straps are a different color then the rest of it

Maybe I have carving and tooling confused.

i made this fo myself, sort of a practice piece, so I use what scrap I have laying around.

I like contrasting colors on my pieces anyway, sort of artistic license ;-)

Carving is what you do with a swivel knife, tooling is what you do with stamps.

Contrasting can be good when done right, other times it just looks weird. Long as you like it, that's what matters

Every day you learn something is a good day. If you don't learn something every day, was it worth waking up for?
