CircleMLeather Report post Posted May 29, 2016 Make carved belts, bronc nose bands, bridals and chaps. Would also like to do repairs on horse blankets, hay bags and other equipment. Presently have a Singer 211. Not getting good results. Many years experience with home machines first experience with industrial machine. Ready to bite the bullet and spend a little more if it will let me work more efficiently. Live in the country not able to watch the video on choosing the right sewing machine for the job. JLSleather Report post Posted May 29, 2016 While I should say that I don't have one of these, honestly I've heard nothing but good 'stuff' about the Cowboy 3200. You might call Bob the sewing guy and ask him if he'd recommend the 3200 or the 227R. As a rule, one of the first questions you'll want to answer,.. what weight of thread do you want to use? I've sewn carved and lined belts with thread sizes 138, 207, and 277. Any of these will hold up on a belt, just a different look. From the following pic, the 3200 is just a tad "heavier" use, and it comes standard with a flatbed you might prefer. Again, I'm just gabbin'.. Bob is the guy! Wizcrafts Report post Posted May 30, 2016 When you call CowboyBob, ask if he can set a CB3200 up with blanket feet and throw in the harness set for those occasions when you need to sew something where tooth marks would be a problem. The blanket feet also include a matching feed dog with teeth. These parts provide solid hold and feed of bags and horse blankets. The machine sews with medium to large sizes of thread, like #138 up. The CB227 stops at #138 and possibly #207. You will need non-leather point needles for cloth. They are available in more sizes than the leather point needles. Be as accurate as possible when you describe your anticipated type of sewing. You want to get the best machine from the get go. The 227R is a lighter duty walking foot machine with a rotary shuttle. It will still sew blankets, but straw and dirt in the cloth may jam the shuttle faster than on a 3200, which has an oscillating shuttle that clears dirt better.
