Contributing Member JLSleather Posted August 14, 2016 Contributing Member Report Posted August 14, 2016 Okay, having looked (and looked) I don't see nuthin' in that tandy 6031 holster pattern thing about the weight of leather used. I guess 'back in the day' everything was 9 oz ... Quote
Members plinkercases Posted August 14, 2016 Members Report Posted August 14, 2016 Much of he front end of that pattern pack looks like a lift from the Stohlman holster book (or is at least same era) which says: Light/Lined 6/7 Medium 8 Heavy 9/10 So it does seem back in the day... 9oz Quote
Members SLP Posted August 15, 2016 Members Report Posted August 15, 2016 The real question is why is JLS bothering with the Tandy holster pattern thing? Quote
Contributing Member JLSleather Posted August 15, 2016 Author Contributing Member Report Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) Bothering? There's some nice stuff in there! This one is in teh catalog as a colt python, but if ya line it and lean on it, it fits a ruger super redhawk right nice like And this one sposedta be for a "K" frame from back when .. but line it and skip the welts, and it hugs a little j-frame Edited August 15, 2016 by JLSleather Quote
Contributing Member JLSleather Posted August 15, 2016 Author Contributing Member Report Posted August 15, 2016 Maybe some nostalgia in there, too. When I made my first holster, a lot of them fancy polymer thingies didn't exist yet Quote
Contributing Member JLSleather Posted August 15, 2016 Author Contributing Member Report Posted August 15, 2016 See... now THA'S what I'm talkin bout right there.... Stainless and cow ala lefty! Nice! Quote
Members SLP Posted August 15, 2016 Members Report Posted August 15, 2016 Didn't mean anything by it. I just figured with your pattern making expertise, that you would do your own pattern for everything. The ones you do are really great. I try to make my own patterns, though I admit I "borrow"...heavily. Quote
Members SLP Posted August 15, 2016 Members Report Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) How does the saying go? "Good artists borrow, great artists steal." I am in the process of "borrowing" the cowboy holster by Jim Simmons. Getting that loop to look right is a pain. Edit: In the spirit of keeping with the topic. I am using 6-7oz lined with 4-5oz. Contributing Member JLSleather Posted August 15, 2016 Author Contributing Member Report Posted August 15, 2016 No offense taken -- at all. I like to make my own designs, but i still like the old ones too. I still get asked to make those ... I did take a look at jim's holster thing, but been a while. Still haven't made the thing, though Quote
