Members johnbljr Posted August 19, 2016 Members Report Posted August 19, 2016 Wondering if anyone here has put together anything (like a bag) with leather for the bottom and nylon for the top. Any considerations that I need to take into account before doing this or can I just measure, cut, and sew? Quote
Members Colt W Knight Posted August 19, 2016 Members Report Posted August 19, 2016 I make canvas and leather bags with the leather on the bottom. Depending on the types of material you use, you will want to choose the correct needle. A normal chisel point leather needle will cut vinyl and fabric and make it more susceptible to tearing at the stitch line. The other thing to keep in mind is lining up the leather and synthetic seam on the sides. So you want to be careful with your construction to make sure everything lines up pretty. Other than that, it isn't a big deal to sew cloth, vinyl, nylon, canvas to leather. Quote
Members johnbljr Posted August 19, 2016 Author Members Report Posted August 19, 2016 Thanks for the reply Colt. What about sewing it on my leather/industrial sewing machine? that should not tear since it is not a chisel point needle right? Quote
