Shuttle, Driver Needle Clearances

Hey its Friday everyone! Good Morning

Adjustment clearances for these 794 type needles or 7x4nw, to be used with the shuttle driver, shuttle and the following hook/blade of the shuttle. ? What are some preferences to these with your machines if I can just Plain Ole ask.

I'm going to order another race back with a thinner spec than .144" I have, just to be prepared better for running the 25 needle and over.  At the present its a new learning curve for sure, and "sew" I'm enjoying checking it out, this new to me big stitch.

With plenty of canvas around here I can chunked up enough in sizes to be a good test, but that's down the road. So going through "the book" and a great pdf for the 441 off the web I'm looking at this beast.  I know there are some tips and tricks available to one for adjustment to a degree on all machines, and its understanding these better where I'm going here.

To my knowledge the thread age is unknown its 277 nylon and I'm running a new 25LL from the pack in the drawer replacing the 25 tri point it had.

Other than the usual look-see at everything, I try to check a bit on the way, an have to sometimes wonder how this or that works in these adjustment ways.

I first wondered why it looks that the top thread had extra twist in each stitch "topside" and the bottom is about the same untwisted  ( you all know what I mean).

So this is the lead in and at the end of the post, 1 coffee and I need another.

My race spacer is perfect. The largest needles (#27) just clear the hook, as it passes by the scarf of the needle. Thinner needles are pulled to the left as I sew, as is the nature of lockstitch machines using high tensions and heavy bonded thread. The check spring can be tweaked to throw more thread down for the loop, offsetting this increased distance with thinner deflectable needles.

I suppose one can use a thinner shuttle spacer shim if one uses only smaller needles, up to a #23 or #24. This will make for more reliable sewing with thinner thread and needles.

Sounds great, Wiz I was seeing it as I would get some more clearance with a thinner part, so thought it was set for smaller needle. I'm now at scarf, one thin notebook paper like .001" or less as my yellow scribble pad is 002" this is after moving the driver shaft right to gain almost/maybe .002" clearance. I have heard on some other machines a small amount of pressure on the needle is used sometimes.

It possible that a need to return the driver to the left applying back some pressure or just to zero clearance is best until another part is picked up.

Follow up; I talked to Tony over at Cobra a few minutes ago and he set me up with a top needle bar adjustment with the bushing set screws. Straight forward guy in the Tech department ( you don't need a race ) do this first, in short order with adjustment all is good.
