Members Windrider30 Posted September 15, 2016 Members Report Posted September 15, 2016 I see "yes yes collective gasp keep your undies from knotting" Tandy leather selling leather that was meant for upholstery, they say this leather is good for bags and light weight chaps and what not, is it actually good enough for bags and I am assuming that upholstery leather would be chrome tanned which means no stamping or carving am I right? bikermutt07 Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 (edited) I will be watching for answers, because I know nothing about it. Maybe it would be good as a liner? Edited September 15, 2016 by bikermutt07 Quote I'm not paying 80 bucks for a belt!!! It's a strip of leather. How hard could it be? 4 years and 3 grand later.... I have a belt I can finally live with. Stitching is like gravy, it's only great if you make it every day. From Texas but in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Good upholstery leather is great for small items and even purses that have a "soft" feel. Most of my small items are Upholstery leather especially the pouches. Just think of the look and feel of a leather couch or even any leather clothing you've handled. Upholstery leather is like any chrome-tanned leather it will not take any kind of tooling. That being said your mileage may vary, I've seen some horrible furniture that is supposed to be leather but is really bonded or bicast, which in very broad terms could be called "Upholstery Leather". I wouldn't suspect that Tandy is selling that but you never know. Generally good upholstery leather can be found at around $2 per foot so don't pay too much for it. I get lots of scrap from the NC furniture industry, and most of it is great, much of is from Italy or other European countries. Thank you so much for the answer that really does help a lot!!! Quote
