reconstituing Fiebings Acrylic Antique?

Recommended Posts

Bummer .... I went to use my medium brown Fiebings Acrylic antique and it looked like oatmeal. So I opened up my unopened bottle still with the seal and .... oatmeal! I was afraid to use it on the piece I had been working on for some time though I guess it would have worked. Is there anything I can add in order to return it to its previous liquidy state? Doesn't have to be perfect since I am just smearing it on and wiping it off but the oatmeal will be harder to work

Alex

You talkin' antique stain, antique dye, or antique finish?  Not that I would know much about any of the above, other than that I know they are NOT the same product.

I may be seeing something different than you.  I've used that stuff a couple of times (had to give it a chance, I suppose) and I thought it was supposed to be thick!

Once, though, my buddy got a weird result with a Fiebings acrylic product.  He contacted Fiebings, who told him they thought it had been allowed to get cold - "near freeze" - (maybe on a UPS truck?).  They just sent him a replacement bottle.

Personally, if i had one bottle was "bad", prolly just pitch it and forget it.  But multiple bottles from teh same supplier, I'd be saying something.

I know that with most acrylic products, once they chooch, they are done. It may thin out but it won't stick.  And frozen resolene sucks. I have a small leather kit i bring traveling because my family ALWAYS wants me to fix stuff for them when I visit. I throw a hand warmer pack in there before i check my bag to prevent the small bottle of resolene from freezing. In days past, I would just take it in my carry on along with the knives and hammers. I then would sit down on the plane with my complementary whisky. and light a smoke. Those were the days..

Btw, The guidelines in Canada for what you can pack in a carryon bag specifically prohibit catapults........scuz me??

Some rules are just toooo damn funny. Here in AZ we can pretty much carry any damn weapon we want. Want a gun .. sure no problem and you dont even need a Carry permit to carry concealed and you dont have to carry concealed if you dont feel like it. Double edge knives, bowies you name it no problem go ahead and carry them openly and dangling from your hip if you like but ..

nunchucks ... yea the broom stick handles that bruce lee swung around in a bad 70's karate movie ... strictly prohibited!

Im pretty sure we are cool with catapults but if you tie two sections of broom handle together with a leather cord ... you are going to visit the man!  :)

On to the original question... I tried to put water in with an oversized bottle and it is no longer like oatmeal but .. like you said .. it doesnt stick very well. Sigh .. to the garbage and I brought my dyes inside the house. I dont remember it hitting freezing around here in a couple of years but it might have over night at some point.
