Volunteer Santa needs a belt

Recommended Posts

Guest Marcus

A friend sold me an antique "Santa for President" belt buckle to wear when I dress up for Santa for the kids at the area hospitals, but it needs a belt.   The belt loop is about 3/8 wide and 2 1/2" across. I was hoping the belt could flange out a little bit to make it look wider.  It's such a nice piece I would like the belt to be tooled and painted so that it really stands out, but I'm probably not going to be able to afford anything more than a plain black belt. I was hoping that I could get it so that I could get the tooling and painting done in a year or two, when I have some more money. My whole costume is handmade by myself.  I'm actually too big for commercial Santa suits.

Marcus;

You didn't list your location. According to your IP address, you are probably located in or near Georgia, in the USA. We do have leather crafters in Georgia who can make your Santa belt. If nobody else answers your request, contact me via the form on my website, at: www.rw-leatherworks.com

Regarding tooled belts, they can only be tooled once. The impressions are stamped and carved in and are permanent. Your buckle is smaller than most Santa belts, which tend to be 4" wide. What you would need is called a taper belt, which is narrower at the buckle and billet ends.

If Wiz is right about your location, I'm in Georgia and would be able to make something like this for you, contact me at chief31794@yahoo.com.

I just made one for a "Helper" here on the Central Coast.  It was 4 inches wide and made of 11-12 oz to hold its shape.  I tooled it with holly berries and leaves, but dyed it all black, so the image, while deep, remains in keeping with Santa's sense of style - which is to say, understated while still individualistic.  His size was 48, which, of course, takes about 60 running inches of leather.
