Members Gloss Posted November 17, 2016 Members Report Posted November 17, 2016 I'm a totally newbie in leather craft and i have two question. First my project is a 1 1/2 veg tan leather belt (bought from a craft store)that i want to look like natural undyed finish. What topcoat or finish should i use after putting neatsfoot oil? And shoul i put oil under the belt(rough side part). Suggestion with how to apply step is highly appreciated. Second is the chicago screw size to use for this kind of belt(1 1/2 veg tan belt). Thank you all Quote
Members Beret Posted November 18, 2016 Members Report Posted November 18, 2016 Are you using 9/10oz leather? For that thickness I use 1/4" screws. I'll use 3/8" too but for your purposes I'd go with 1/4". Quote

MADMAX22 Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 (edited) For your finish you can use any number of things depending on how you want it to hold up, the color of the natural leather your looking for. You can do a sno-seal or home made type of wax/oil finish. This will wear naturally and darken with time. You can oil it then seal it with something like resolene or any number of top coats like that. Should keep the color for a little longer before it starts darkening and getting the aged look. You could even just slap a thin coat of olive oil on it and call it good too. Edited November 19, 2016 by MADMAX22 Quote
