Members Chopinzee Posted December 5, 2016 Members Report Posted December 5, 2016 (edited) I made a wallet for a friend recently, and dip-dyed the pieces. I sealed both sides with a few coats of Resolene. The outside is holding up fine, but the flesh side is turning all his credit cards orange!! It's not a big deal in his case (says he doesn't mind "personalized" cards, hehe) but I'd like to avoid this problem in the future. I know one option is to leave the flesh side uncolored, but I really don't like the look of almost-white leather against dark exteriors. Does anyone have other solutions? I've seen a brown colored Resolene for sale online, but don't know if that would work any better. Edited December 5, 2016 by Chopinzee Quote
Members Mattsbagger Posted December 6, 2016 Members Report Posted December 6, 2016 I made some wallets last week. The suggestions were to line with light leather or slick down with gum trag. I am trying the lining process now. Also got some gum trag too.lol. Don't know if that helps you or not. I am new to this too. Quote
Members Halitech Posted December 6, 2016 Members Report Posted December 6, 2016 buff the living crap out of the flesh side, slick with water then hit with the resolene or beeswax. Better option is to line or leave natural color Quote
ChriJ Posted December 6, 2016 Report Posted December 6, 2016 I've used TanKote to lay down the flesh side of the leather and it seemed to work well. Chris Quote
Members Mongo Posted December 6, 2016 Members Report Posted December 6, 2016 I line wallets with thin chrome-tan leather and gun belts with suede. With any unlined belts I try to burnish like Halitech described. Quote
