vertical axis VS horizontal

Recommended Posts

Could it be said a vertical axis, top loading bobbin is more expensive (better???) than a horizontal?   A Juki 1508 vs Juki 1541 for example.

Who's the best dealer to drive to from Western Kentucky?  StL, Nashville, Memphis potentially in driving range.  Looking to upgrade from my LU562 or just hang on to my machine??  The small bobbins are a hassle.   And I've gotten the "fear" of needle breaking, reading around here, with the !508NH and the longer needle system.  If I stayed with the 135x17 needle... can that be used on the 1508NH or just get the 1508N then?...  or stop fussin!!!

You can go with one of our posted dealers or you might try Dunlop/ Sunbrand  International only because they are in Western Kentucky.

Yes they are more expensive with them two models in there standard model 1508n and the 1541s, better is in the beholders op.

With the Solarfix 2000/92 thread, yardage on the bobbin runs very close to this in arm measure;

 (my singer  G=22yd), ( 1541  M=28yd), ( 1508  U=38yd).  I know this is different than poly or nylon but that's how the bobbin loads with this stuff and maybe similar to some others.

I did couple weeks ago bust the very tip off a 190 messing with that several layers thick veg tan. I didn't see it initially and (checked everything else) as it would go down and thump! hit. It was a pain, finally took all the covers off to check timing etc. removed feed dog to see better, and thought why not move the needle. So removed it "after already noticing hook was spot on" and ya the very tip was broke. So I cut the layers of veg apart and found the tip,(like a 64th") might have been 4 miles prior canvas sewing that made it fail who knows :)

So trudging thru I put a new 190 and usual size 19 in and started sewing thru all the thick materials again finishing the testing? I was doing, obviously screwing around with capabilities of the machines. In considering this there for sure times a tough spot on some veg tan that could be way more efficient with a short stout needle but I haven't found a need in canvas yet rather a benefit with height clearance I like so.  But really were talking dropping the needle bar up or down a hair and only a prob because im busy on the net, hehehehe

The mention 190 sys needle above was on a 1541, thats whats in them all except a 1341 and only because i considered more leather work turning & twisting at the needle possibly, but surely not planning on the thick stuff i was messing with, that was screwing off and im the owner as you are there.

have a good day there
