bikermutt07 Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 Can somebody clue me in on exactly what oilies are? What are they used for? What's the tanning method? Available in full grain, top grain, or both? Temper? Is it the same stuff as oil tanned leather? And if it is, I still need the above questions answered. Thanks, you guys float my boat. Quote
Members Tugadude Posted February 6, 2017 Members Report Posted February 6, 2017 Oilies, or oily leather is leather that has been tanned (frequently chrome) and then treated with oil to soften and add water resistance. It is used in hiking boots, camping gear and man bags. Can often show a pull-up characteristic and is generally firm. Would be a great choice for a leather backpack for example. Quote
