Members markfoto Posted June 7, 2017 Members Report Posted June 7, 2017 Does any one have recommendations on synthetic shearling. i have seen it on numerous websites from 20.00 a yd to 60.00 a yard. supplier from where you purchased from and glue recommendations would also be appreciated thanks .Is one yd enough to do one western saddle or is more needed? Members Squilchuck Posted June 7, 2017 Members Report Posted June 7, 2017 I bought some from Weaver. Don't recall the price, but inexpensive and seemingly good quality. Weaver sells quality goods. I used rubber cement. I don't use it for saddles, though. Why not use the best bark-tanned shearling for a saddle, instead of imitation, unless price is a factor on a replacement job? I'd get two yards. --John Quote
Members Squilchuck Posted June 7, 2017 Members Report Posted June 7, 2017 Also, the thickness seemed a bit less than advertised. Definitely not as dense as real shearling, hence less cushion and durability on a saddle. Quote
Members oltoot Posted June 7, 2017 Members Report Posted June 7, 2017 It has no place on quality work, period, regardless of price. Quote
Members OldNews Posted June 11, 2017 Members Report Posted June 11, 2017 I used it once on a repair job where cost was a factor. It is not a very good replacement for the real thing. If you have to, order 2 yds, but for the difference in money I would get real thing. Saddle makers are notorious for using only the highest quality material, and sometimes I don't feel like there is a huge difference between the highest quality, and the middle of the road quality. Not in this case, the synthetic is definitely not even close to the same quality. Good Luck! Quote
