beltbuckles Report post Posted July 7, 2017 (edited) i have a juki 5550n-7 and it had some thread from the previous owner.. it seems to be really old thread and its super fragile and small.. the type for a home machine to use.. it breaks really easily.. so i loaded it up with some upholstery coats and clark thread nylon extra strong.. i couldn't find the size of the tread so i call the company but they didnt respond yet.. anyway it doesn't seem to be too big.. maybe size 69 or bigger?? anyway.. i loaded up the bobbin and the machine but the needle would not pick up the tread... hmmmmm i put the other small thread in and it worked okay.. again the "coats and clark" thread really isn't that big.. any ideas.. (here is a link to the type of thread for a reference) https://www.amazon.com/COATS-Strong-Upholstery-Thread-150-Yard/dp/B004BP43JE Edited July 7, 2017 by beltbuckles
Gregg From Keystone Sewing Report post Posted July 7, 2017 V69 will work fine, but don't know for 100% if the under bed trimmers will cut that, or how well. First things I would check are the needle size, make sure you have a needle with an eye large enough to accommodate the thread, such as a size 18. Also, check the bobbin case tension, if it is set for fine threads, it may need to be backed off a bit. Other than that, should work fine, really unless something is wrong with the machine mechanically.
