WoodysWorkshop Report post Posted August 19, 2017 Since I am new here I hope I am posting this in the right place. I Emailed Tandy Leather Company and I never heard back from them. I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I will let it be known up front, what I have is all I have to work with at this time. You can learn more about that in my profile for now. I used Eco-Flo 2602-02 Silver Cova Color first on the areas needed, overlapping the surrounding areas to be sure of full coverage. I then applied Eco-Flo 2608-03 Briar Brown Hi-Lite Color Stain the required areas, covering over the overlapped Silver color. I let it dry for 48 hours. When I applied the Eco-Flo2610-01 Super Shene it started to melt spread the Briar Brown. I dabbed up the melted Brown. I waited another 24 hours and applied another coat of Super Shene, and again it melted away the Brown color. I dabbed up the melted Brown, but now the Silver is starting to show through. The Super Shene has chuncks in it, so I'm sure it must have gotten frozen in shipping at some point. I'm not sure if the melting is an error in using the wrong product, or due to the frozen Super Sheen. And I am uncertain on how to proceed. Any help here would be Greatly Appreciated. Included is a photo of what I am working on, an order for a Model Rocket Club.
Instinctive Report post Posted August 20, 2017 I work almost exclusively with EcoFlo because it what I can get where I'm at and it has been working very well. I use the Pro Stain, Highlighter and Gel Antique. The highlighter and gel antique will always "muddy" when rubbing on a finish. Go get a can of Varathane Diamond Wood Crystal Clear OUTDOOR spay finish. It an acrylic flexible finish. I got mine at Home Depot. I have not used the Cova Paint, but doing a project like yours, the steps I would do are: Paint the Cova Let dry at least 12 hours Apply Highlighter really thick and wipe off access and buff with clean paper towel Let dry at least 12 hours Spray a light coat of the Varathane Let dry at least a couple of hours Spray another light coat of Varathane let dry at least a couple of hours At this point, If useing it, I would apply the gel antique using the same process at the highlighter. Let dry for at least 12 hours Apply a couple more coats of the Varathane After applying the last coat of the Varathane and it is dry, you can apply the super shene or other acrylic finish and buff with a soft clean cloth or sheep wool if you wish. The picture attached is a recent project finished using this process. Black EcoFlo Pro Stain Chestnut EcoFlo Highlighter Black EcoFlo Gel Antique Hope this helps. WoodysWorkshop Report post Posted August 20, 2017 Nice looking skull! I does help. Unfortunately, buying anything to finish these patches is not possible. I have to figure out how to finish them without buying anything. When funds become available I will definitely invest in some of that Varathane for future projects. WoodysWorkshop Report post Posted August 22, 2017 I am guessing there is no hope for the situation at hand. I'm thinking I used something I shouldn't have for the intended purpose. So, my next question is: Can I wash the Briar Brown Hi-Lite off with soap and water without messing up the rest of untooled, uncolored areas? Other wise, I will have to start over. Something I don't look forward to. The details on those are really close and took forever to do. Thank You All Kindly for any suggestions that can still be of some help.
